| | Tom is Ate Mickey's fiance's boss. We met him at the Park Mall (Cebu) and dined at Tandoori. He talked a lot about places he's been to and food from different places as well.

Speaking of food, he introduced us some Mideastern and Indian cuisines (which is really new to me)..Like this one:
These are some appetizers called Hammus (chick peas) and Babaganoosh (eggplant). I like how the latter tastes compared to the other one. But Tom said Hammus is more famous to MidEasterns. These are like dips to a round flat bread or pita.
Anyway, here's what I ordered. It's a dish called Musaka. It's a beef menu topped with melted cheese, and some kind of babaganoosh on the sides, formed like a pizza, and stuffed with tomatoes, cucumbers, and mint leaves.

Actually, the foods were all the same except on how they are presented.haha

| | Ela (ACJJ manager) brought us (cousin Armi) to a Korean Hair Salon somewhere in Mandaue. The hairstylist advised me not to cut it short (like I wished to) because it is curly, and I would find it hard to fix a frizzy kinky hair as short as it is. So, what she did is..she just trimmed my hair into layers..making it look like letter V at the back. Well, I love the feeling of lightness in my head.. hehe since I'm used to carry weight (heavy volume of hair). Now I can leave it hanging and untied. I've been tying it up since my volunteer year in Mindoro. Now my hair is free again..weee! Thanks Ate Mickey for the treat.haha aw utang diay.ü |
| | I volunteered to ADAM JENNIE'S CHRISTIAN CENTER FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN for a week or so..I still don't know when I'll be coming back to CdO. I'm doing some office jobs and at the same time observing these special people and how the center operates. It was founded by an American, Mr. Lee Jennie, and they are 5 years now. I was here some 2 years ago to help a bit in developing their website..and now, I'm here with the same job..
You can visit the site at www.christian-foundation.com and leave your comments there. We will be glad.:)
[JVP pips, familiar with this image? Yes, it's Fr. JJ's cover of his Yayee book! I was so surprised when I saw this big tarpauline displayed on their office wall.ü]
[This is Ashley. She's sooo cute. She reminds me of my cousin Carmel.ü]

Message from the Project Coordinator Ms. Mina C. Ballesteros

|
| | With tears in my eyes, this was the last time to see Ate Mina huhuh. We've been part of the Ballesteros family and the Family Far School as well...

And as our last RNR for this year's VSP, the group decided to go islet hopping at the Baco Islets in Calapan City.

Thanks muchos Fr. Andy Lubi for sponsoring our motorboat ride. He made this event happen (as he offered to)...

Oriental Mindoro province is situated 140 kilometers south of Manila, in the Philippines’ 7th largest island of the same name. It is divided into 14 municipalities (Baco, Bansud, Bongabong, Bulalacao, Gloria, Mansalay, Naujan, Pinamalayan, Pola, Puerto Galera, Roxas, San Teodoro, Socorro and Victoria) with Calapan City in the north as the only city and provincial capital. The province’s topography is organized into two types: mountainous, rugged land in the west and flat agricultural lands to the east. The country’s 18th highest mountain, Mt. Halcon (2582 m) and 5th largest lake, Lake Naujan, are found in the province. The province shares in the island’s mysterious history which pre-dates the arrival of the Spanish in the country. Rumors of Chin-San or “Mountain of Gold” have already been in circulation among Chinese merchants who traded with the locals a century before Magellan came to the Philippines. From these rumors came the name Mina de Oro or Mine of Gold, the name given by the Spanish to the island. The rumors still remain a mystery today – a mystery shared among the various Mangyan tribes that inhabit the area and are one of the oldest tribes in the Philippines. But one thing is clear, there is no gold in this island. The real “gold” rests in its countryside, in the golden rice fields and thick coconut plantations, in the glowing white sand beaches, abundant marine life, lush rainforests and colorful cultures and traditions. From Puerto Galera to Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro gives you the best of both worlds — from a psychedelic beach bum lifestyle to a simple, back to basics adventure in the heartlands. Oriental Mindoro is mainly sought for by tourists because of the Puerto Galera beach scene. Puerto Galera (“port of galleons” in Spanish), a town noted for its beautiful natural harbor, is dotted with pockets of the finest white sand beaches comparable to that of Boracay. Being situated along the Verde Island Passage (the so-called “center of the center of marine biodiversity in the world”), the town’s islands and coves hides abundant marine life in its wide stretch of coral reefs. Divers and snorkelers will have their money’s worth in the town’s seas. Hotels, resorts, bars and restaurants are lined up along the coasts of the town’s famed beaches particularly, White Beach, Sabang Beach, Big and Small La Laguna Beach. The scenic Tamaraw Falls which is 14 kms. from White Beach is accessible in a few minutes by van or jeep, or 3 hours of walk. A bridge just below the cascades gives tourists a chance to shower in its cool, refreshing water. But aside from Puerto Galera, undiscovered and unrealized tourist attractions lie along the province’s eastern coast, from Calapan City to Bulalacao town. The capital, Calapan City hosts the annual Sanduguan Festival every May, which commemorates the prehistoric trade relations between the natives of the island and Chinese merchants, and the Mahalta Festival, a revelry which represents the entire personality of the province as symbolized by the Mangyans, Mount Halcon and the Tamaraw buffalo. All of the province’s municipalities offer their best mardi gras to be presented to local and foreign tourists alike, a reflection of the provincial government’s efforts to develop the province into the next big destination in the Philippines. In Baco town near Calapan City lies Alibatan Island noted for its white sand beaches where seagulls, turtles and oysters thrive. Also in the same town are Aras Cave, famous not only for its stalactite formations but also for the peculiar presence of a falls inside the cave; and Mount Halcon (2582 m) which is every Filipino mountain climber’s dream challenge. The trail going up the mountain is traced by crystal clear streams and lush rainforest. On a clear day, the summit of this mountain provides a good view of the Mindoro countryside, of Batangas and Marinduque, even as far as Bicol Region. Lake Naujan, which is surrounded by the municipalities of Naujan, Victoria, Socorro and Pola is protected wildlife reserve area. Various species of resident and migratory waterfowl as well as freshwater crocodiles and sail-finned lizards dwell within its waters. Bird-watching enthusiasts, eco-tourists and sports fishermen will find Lake Naujan a treasure trove of natural richness. Pinamalayan and Bongabong town further south also has good beaches that cater to local, economy-class, tourists. Pinamalayan has a small outrigger boat service going to Gasan in Marinduque, and in Maestro de Ocampo and Banton Islands in Romblon. For those seeking to get to Romblon or Boracay via Oriental Mindoro, then Roxas town down south is the way to go. Dangay Port in this town has big outrigger boats and RORO vessels that can take tourists to Odiongan in Tablas Island, Romblon or Caticlan, Aklan. For those who want to get a closer look at the province’s indigenous Mangyan population, Mansalay town below Roxas is a good starting point. There are various tribes of Mangyans here, particularly, Tadyawan, Hanunuo and Alangan. These tribes are being taken care of and studied by Father Antoon Postma, a Dutch missionary who has lived among them for decades and have published a number of books and articles about their culture and traditions. Another Mangyan tribe of the Iraya stock is located in Baclaran, Puerto Galera. This one is under the care of SVD missionary Father Erwin Thiel. It’s just a 30-minute walk from the town proper. Bulalacao town at the southern tip of the province got its name from the 13 islands scattered in the seas south of it, which, according to folklore, were formed by meteors crashing down the sea from space (hence the name Bulalacao or “shooting star”). Snorkelers, scuba divers and or those who want to be their own Robinson Crusoe will be starstrucked by its splendid coves, reefs and beaches. --------- TRAVEL GUIDES: http://www.ppa.com.ph/SRNH/Provinces/mindoro/mindoro.htm TRIP SCHEDULE | | Place / Location | Departure/Arrival | Vehicle Type | | Batangas - Calapan | 0200H - 0400H | Ferry-Starlite Pacific | | Calapan - Roxas | 0500H - 0730H | Bus | | Roxas - Caticlan | 0830H - 1400H | Ferry-Maharlika | | Roxas - Caticlan | 0200H - 0630H | Ferry-Starlite Navigator | | Caticlan - Roxas | 0800H - 1230H | Ferry-Starlite Navigator | | Roxas - Calapan | 1330H - 1600H | Bus | | Calapan - Batangas | 1600H - 1800H | Ferry-Starlite Nautica | | Calapan - Batangas | 1930H - 2100H | Ferry-Starlite Voyager | | Caticlan - Roxas | 1530H - 2130H | Ferry-Maharlika | | Roxas - Calapan | 2200H - 2430H | Bus | | Calapan - Batangas | 1230H - 1430H | Ferry-Starlite Nautica |

I've finally hiked that very dry and steep mountain trail of SILAD, Bulalacao with a Farm School student Jeselyn Aykid. I realized I have no time left other than Feb 20-22..thank u Lord for fulfilling this dream again! Later I knew there was an encounter with the military and NPA close to this area. Whew! Good riddance, I came here early.

| | We're late! Jiza and I got up at around 7:15 am already and we're late for mass! Unfortunately, we ran out of water for bathing! But good thing, there's small amount of water coming out gradually from the faucet. And so we hurried. Another 1 full pail of water for bathing--oh no not again! I normally take a bath for an hour and what is this....hmp.
Now, we hurriedly packed our things for our instant "beach picnic" plan for our Valentine Date today =) We rushed into the parish and good luck, Fr. Allan is still giving his homily...
It's so sweet, in the middle of his homily he requested the couples to go in front of the altar and renew their vows. The couples kissed together! (I'm wondering what my parents are doing now with their WME WeekEnd Seminar)

When the mass was over, we went outside to buy "kakanin" coz I'm so hungry.
 [our favorite Malagkit kay Dean]
Then we saw T. Lenie with her choco balls and valentine stuffs on her table! I'm happy to see innovations for the choco balls..this time, it's got sprinkles! nice..ü I'm also happy to teach them how to do this little business..(compliments to Mol for passing this recipe to me before)

ang cute ng pic na to..
 [ohhh..sweet]
Here we go......to the BAYAN to celebrate heart's day! (Sa mga walang ka-date jan, why not DATE YOUR PARENTS! At sa mga malalayo ang mga churvah, yes Dess, bittersweet nga, so..magpakaBUSY sa work!hehe :p)

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!

The fruit of my labor..These are the products of my 1st ever Photography Workshop for kids last Jan 29. I titled it as "KLIK!". My pupils were very excited about this. They just love taking pictures!

Thank God I still had the chance of mounting these pics into this exhibit room T.Lenie and I prepared. We slept here (Kindergarten classroom) after the Coronation Night. I really like this idea--the cake exhibit! hehe (ang galing natin t.lenie!) We just let the long tables stand on their own, forming them into a circle, and T.Lenie dressed them up with white curtains! Nice!!! We had a hard time pushing the thumb tacks (to put on the cartolinas)..but it all went good. I'm just not sure about the dates of these pics since the files were just all in the desktop (grouping of pix accdng. to SYs)

The kids had fun in voting for the "best shot"..Joel Manalo's "Lucious Green" seems to win here..
